In a Sunday school class back in my elementary school days – maybe third or fourth grade? – I was focused intently on reading the lesson of the week, sitting in one chair with another positioned to help prop up my book on my knees, when the teacher suddenly snapped, “Do you put your feet on the furniture AT HOME?!” Startled, I looked at her and froze. I didn’t know what to say. Because while I didn’t want to come across as disrespectful at church … ummm, yes? Always. I ALWAYS have my feet up at home. And in the car, in the office, and pretty much everywhere else.
I am an unapologetic lounger, and since I’ve been old enough to live on my own, I’ve pined for seating that could basically serve as a bed in the living room – with the RH Cloud sofa being at the center of those dreams for the better part of the last decade.
Over and over, living space after living space – rented or owned – I have thought about getting a Cloud sofa and had to abandon it for one reason or another. Layout and space limitations. The budget of the day. General practicality (we’ll be moving soon, etc.).
Then, finally, the stars aligned.
Knowing it would be an investment, I did a LOT of shopping to explore options. I looked at a lot of dupes – and there are some good ones out there – but I just couldn’t shake my attachment to the original. So imagine my excitement when I stumbled onto a perfectly lived in (but well taken care of!) second-hand version on Chairish.

Chairish is a great site for vintage inspiration and it’s often in my rotation when researching options for outfitting a space. (Even when I don’t buy, I always come away with warm fuzzies because, hello, lovely vintage things.) It’s where I found I found THE version of the Cloud sofa I wanted, in great condition, and I was pumped when I was able to come to an agreed upon price with the seller. Originally I bought a sectional version, but when I installed it, I realized the room would flow better if I eliminated the return. (I’ve since tucked that piece up in my son’s room for bedtime reading.)
There are so many cons to this couch, not gonna lie. You have to fluff it A LOT (daily). It’s white and I have a four year old. When we have people over, they generally steer clear of sitting on it, obviously uncomfortable with getting swallowed up by it.
But oh, the family naps and snuggling. The sprawled-out movie and TV watching on a lazy weekend afternoon. The cross-legged reading of magazines and cookbooks as the sun comes up and goes down.
Totally, 100% worth. the. wait.
